1. Puppies are eating Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy. I recommend a 2x a day feeding schedule. 2. I recommend placing 2 cups of food in a bowl for your puppy 2x a day, allowing the puppy to eat their fill within a 15 minute time period, anything left after the 15 minutes is picked up. I do not follow the guidelines on the back of the bag - each dog is different and puppies need more food/calories during the first few months because they are growing so quickly up until 6 months of age. 3. If you intend on switching your puppy from Purina Pro Plan, this must be a very slow and gradual process as to not upset their stomachs. This is about a month long process to switch. (Week 1 is 100% original food, week 2 is 75% original food, 25% new food, week 3 is 50/50, and so on and so forth until week 5 when you can fully switch them to the new food). 4. Your puppy has received their first round of vaccinations at 6 weeks old. They will be due for additional rounds of vaccines at 9, 12, and 16 weeks of age. 5. Per our contract, we do not allow you to get your puppy spayed or neutered until they are ideally 18-24 months of age. This allows the puppy to fully mature and has been scientifically proven to lower the risk of hip dysplasia, cruciate tears, and certain cancers. If you spay/neuter your puppy before this age, this voids our health guarantee. 6. For flea and tick prevention, I highly recommend Bravecto or Nexgard (or NexGard Plus for flea/tick/heartworm combo) 7. For heartworm prevention, I highly recommend Interceptor Plus (or NexGard Plus for flea/tick/heartworm combo) 8. All puppies are dewormed at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks old. They will each receive a fecal exam prior to going home to show that they have no ground parasites before leaving our facility. Due to this fact, Red Tide Retrievers does not cover any veterinary expenses related to any ground parasite, per our contract. We strongly recommend getting your pup checked out by your vet within 48 hours of going home. 9. I highly recommend, prior to 16 weeks of age (or their 16 week vaccinations), that you do not take your puppy to any high traffic dog areas such as dog parks, rest areas, or pet stores. A puppy immune system prior to their 16 week vaccinations is much weaker. This also extends to other animals that you would be unsure are properly vaccinated and healthy. 10. We are available for the lifetime of the puppy and beyond. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Red Tide Retrievers. (Taylor 804-761-8794).
