Guardian Home Program
At Red Tide Retrievers we believe that every dog deserves to have a loving, forever home. All of our dogs are a part of our family and live in our home rather than a kennel so they can get as much attention as possible. Because of this, we have decided to offer a Guardian Home Program. A Guardian Home is a permanent home for one of our breeding females.
Becoming a Guardian Home gives you the opportunity to have one of our "pick of the litter" puppies join your family. Rather than buying this puppy, ownership will be retained by RTR until their breeding career has ended (4 litters). RTR retains ALL breeding rights. We reserve the right to cancel our Guardianship Program at any time if we deem necessary. Once retired, she will be spayed at our expense and returned back to you.
As a Guardian Home you will be required to pay for the everyday expenses of owning a dog such as annual exams, vaccines, food, etc. We will pay for all breeding related costs including health testing.
Becoming a Guardian Home is not for everyone. You MUST be willing and able to follow the following requirements:

Becoming a Guardian Home is not for everyone. You MUST be willing and able to follow the following requirements:
- Have previous experience with dogs.
- Be willing to socialize puppies. This is very important!
- The dog must be an indoor pet and must never be left unattended outside.
- Feed a premium, quality food that we recommend.
- All other dogs in the house must be spayed/neutered if they are the opposite sex.
- Provide regular exercise.
- Willing to let us, the breeders, visit your home.
- Contact us immediately in the event of a serious illness or accident.
- Send a copy of all vet visits to us.
- Must not allow her to breed with unapproved males.
- Provide veterinary care when needed.
- Keeping the dog on monthly, year-round preventative medications to protect against heartworms, fleas, and ticks.
- You must notify the breeder immediately when the female dog has come into her estrus cycle and be prepared to meet us upon request when the dog is needed for breeding purposes; be willing to drop your female dog off for 1-2 weeks while she is bred. Then drop her back off 1 week prior to her whelp date. She will stay with us until the puppies are weaned. You will be welcome to visit us and come play with the puppies!
- Be able to communicate with us, the breeder, about scheduling, testing, breeding, whelping, and anything else breeding related.
- If guardian family goes on vacation or our of town for any reason and the dog is not sent to the breeder's home for the duration of the vacation, contact information for the kennel and/or pet-sitter should be given to the breeder before the guardian family departs.
- The Guardian Home agrees to keep in close contact with the breeder, regularly sending photos of the dog and give the breeder clearance to use any photos sent for marketing purposes (social media, website, etc.)
- If the dog is altered OR bred purposefully without written consent of the breeder, guardian will owe breeder a sum of $30,000. Any legal costs involved with obtaining this payment will also be paid by the Guardian Home.
